Estimation of Salivary Flow Rate in Myocardial Infarct Patients and its Association with Type II Diabetes Mellitus

Objective: The aim of our study was to investigate the association between salivary flow rate in diabetes mellitus and development coronary artery disease. Methodology: A cross-sectional executed Cardiology Department Civil Hospital Karachi. Unstimulated saliva collected 9 11 a.m. Participants were asked refrain from eating drinking for 1 hour before collection. They then instructed collect 5 ml unstimulated a 15 falcon tube 10 minutes. Finally, patient’s oral hygiene status recorded by dentist. Data entered SPSS version 21. Descriptive analysis significance relationship analyzed using chi-square test. Results: Out 100 myocardial infarct patients age range 30-70 years, 71(71%) male 29 (29%) female. Overall frequency 55%. Significant relationships found occurrence infarction mellitus, among reduction patient, gender patient Salivary below 3mL/10 minute 48 diabetic whereas nondiabetic had this clinical finding. No significant caries periodontitis with presence diabetes. Conclusion: Careful monitoring symptoms related severity DM particularly can be helpful early diagnosis at possibility developing cardiovascular complications.
